Last updated 17 October 2026: the fingerprint of an address kept for the free credits.
Chatty Chad was called LrC Buddy until October 2026.
Chatty Chad is run by one person. This page says what we keep about you and your photos, why, and for how long. If anything here is unclear, write to hello@mail.chattychad.com.
In short
- When you ask for an edit, your message, the photo's settings, how it was taken (including its GPS position, if it has one) and a small preview go to our server and on to the AI providers that power Chatty Chad, to produce the edit.
- We keep your requests and the previews for as long as you have an account. We never train AI on them, and our AI providers' terms with us don't let them either.
- No ads, no analytics, no marketing mail. One cookie, to keep you signed in.
- You can delete your account, and what we keep about you, at any time.
Your account
We keep your email address, a hash of your password (never the password), when you signed up and when you last signed in, and the devices you sign in from. We send mail only to confirm your address, to sign you in, and about your account (such as when Chatty Chad is ready for you); never marketing. Mail goes out through Resend.
When a new account gets its free credits, we also keep a fingerprint of its email address. The fingerprint is a SHA-256 hash of the address after a “+” tag is removed from the part before the @ (you+lightroom@ becomes you@) and, for Gmail and Googlemail addresses, the dots in that part are removed too. It doesn't hold the address, but it isn't a secret either: anyone who already has your address can work out the same fingerprint and match it. We keep it so the free credits are given once per address, and use it for nothing else.
If you subscribe, Stripe takes the payment and keeps the card; we never see the card number. We keep your Stripe customer and subscription ids, your plan and its dates, and a record of every credit granted and used, each use linked to the request it paid for.
Your photos and edit requests
Every time Chatty Chad asks for an edit or for feedback on a photo, our server records the request and the answer. A request holds your message, the photo's Develop settings and how it was taken (camera, lens, exposure, capture time, and the GPS position if the photo has one), and a small JPEG preview of the photo. The answer is the AI's text and the edits it proposed. We also record which AI model handled the request, how much it processed, what it cost, and how long it took.
The previews are stored once per image, in a private storage bucket; the texts and settings in our database. We keep them so that we can see what the product does, find mistakes, and work out what to charge. Nobody but the person running the service reads them, and we never use them to train AI.
The AI providers
To produce each answer, the request (your message, the settings and capture details, and the preview) is sent to the third-party AI providers that power Chatty Chad. They process it to return the answer, under their terms for business customers, which as they stand today do not let them train their models on it; if that changes, we will update this page. They may keep it for a limited time, for example to detect abuse, as those terms allow. If you would like to know which providers we use, or to read their terms, write to us and we will tell you.
How long
For now we keep everything for as long as your account exists: the accounting (who, when, which AI model, how much it processed, what it cost), the request and answer texts, and the previews. We have not yet built a job that removes old texts and previews; when we do, this page will say after how long, and the change will apply to what is already stored.
Deleting your account
On your account page, choose Delete your account. The page lists what goes before you confirm with your password. Deleting removes, at once:
- your account: your address, name, password hash and sign-ins;
- your devices (Chatty Chad there is signed out within a minute);
- every request and answer text you sent through Chatty Chad, and the previews of your photos (a preview is kept only if another request, by someone else, sent the very same image, which in practice does not happen);
- your remaining credits; an active plan is cancelled at once, without a refund for the rest of the month.
We keep the accounting: for each request, when it was made, which AI model handled it, how much it processed and what it cost, and every credit granted and used. These rows no longer name you; the link between them and your address is deleted with the account. If your account got the free credits, we keep the fingerprint of its address (above), so that signing up again with the same address doesn't give them a second time. It is kept on its own, with nothing that ties it to the accounting or says when it was made: someone who already has your address can learn from it only that the address once had the free credits. Stripe keeps its own record of your payments, as the law requires of it. If a payment is in dispute with your bank, the account can be deleted once the dispute is settled. The database's backups age out: a deleted account has left them within two weeks.
You can also write to hello@mail.chattychad.com from your account's address and we delete it for you.
Where
Our server runs at Amazon Web Services in Ohio, United States, with daily backups that age out within two weeks. Our own logs record requests by id, never their content.
